Viajar a México

The flight to México was uneventful, which is always good when flying. The most thrilling part was, when we approached Greenland. It has such a picturesque coast.

Of course, I was waved when we passed Toronto "Hi Tyler", Memphis "Hi Steve" and Austin "Hi Gauss". Sorry to the Brits, I was checking out the films when we passed you.

In México D.F. we are staying at the Hotel Presidente Intercontinental. Toño's hairdresser knows the manager and thus we got a complimentary upgrade to a room on the club level with nice amenities.

I was too tired but Toño had to take some tacos dorados after we'd arrived.

Our room is at the 39th floor and has a nice view to the south of the city.

We could even see the Popocatepetl volcano. This was at dawn, Now it's barely visible.

Later today, we will be heading to Morelia (4.5 hours by bus), where three of Toño's sibling live. In pre Easter, they have this tradition in Morelia is a tradition called Toritos de Petate. A couple of years ago, I took this video of it:

Of course, when being in Mexcio City one has to meet Dzyan, we plan to do this on our way back in two weeks. I'm so looking forward to this. He's such a fascinating lad.

We are in México

We are on our way to México visiting Toño's family. I missed enjoying a siesta in a hammock in the shade. I'm so longing for this.

Sorry, work has been a bitch recently and I neglected many things. Hope things will be better after our break. We will be back on April 13, 2010.

In the meantime, don't do anything I wouldn't do.

De-Winter

We all have our own method to mark the change of a season. Today, I switched to spring by de-wintring my über-helmet.

I also went for undies in a spring meadow green. I think that should be sufficient to honour +10°C.

Weekend in Bed

We have been rather lazy this weekend, actually we spent a lot of it horizontal. On Sunday evening we could not even be arsed to cook and ordered* some pizza. We'd never ordered food in before. Unlike Toño, I at least used cutlery to eat mine.

* via the internet, since we had to get up to get a phone.

Good News from Татьяна & Toño

My sister-in-law Татьяна had some serious troubles with immigration in Switzerland (read about). Basically, the authorities claimed that my brother and Татьяна were engaged in a sham marriage.

My brother had to hire a barrister. There were two options. A) The Specialist in Swiss immigration law but from another Kanton (state) or B) one with the following qualities:
  • local, knowing all and sundry
  • member of parliament for a xenophobe party
  • immigration-phobic voting record
  • bulldog-like qualities in and off court.
My brother went for option B and his tactic seemed to have worked. The immigration department caved in very early in the legal process. This week Татьяна had been granted right of residence in Switzerland. She is not an illegal immigrant any more and can now visit her mother in Russia, who will celebrate her birthday at the end of this month.

Toño's troubles were not as bad as Татьяна's, nevertheless, they gave reason to worry. Toño was dissatisfied with his employer and had given his notice (read about). Almost unheard off, Toño's employer seemed to have noticed this shot across the bows and has actually changed his behaviour towards the employees. He also kindly asked Toño to reconsider. After some meetings, in which they both talked about their expectations, Toño withdrew the notice and is back on board.

Now both Татьяна & Toño can smile again.

Guests Meet Cord

Our new guest berth has arrived.

That is, when you are granted the honour to be invited to our tables or if you just have the chutzpah to invite yourself, and if you can't make it home because you just liked Toño's selection of wine a bit too much, then you might end here:

The name of this bed sofa is Cord. It a product of Danish Softline, designed by the architects Flemming Busk and Stephan B. Hertzog, who also created the chair Hello for Kylie.
